Winter Break - Sneak Peak of 2013

Well we are half way through winter (its Jan. 23rd) and the weather can best be described as "spring'ish" with highs this week in the mid 70's. As you can see there have not been to many updates to the website and while that's not going to change for a couple more months (April is or first planned trip) I can at least give you a preview of what's coming up (pictures if I have them).

Pedernales Falls State Park - Located East of Johnston City 55 miles north of San Antonio Pedernales Falls is a great park for hiking and nature watching and a good park for swimming. Drought can hit the Pedernales River pretty hard at times so if getting in the water is your goal I would recommend going earlier in the summer.

Looking down from the observation point at the lower falls.
Government Canyon State Natural Area - Located just North West of San Antonio this park just opened tent only camping. This park is AWSOME for mountain biking, hiking and birding.

Guadalupe River State Park - Located West of Bulverde about 20 miles North of San Antonio this park offers lots of swimming with a gravel beach, horse back trails, mountain bike and hiking trails. Due to its close proximity to the city and its excellent swimming this park can get VERY busy.

Palmetto State Park - Small park located 65 miles East of San Antonio has a small lake and the San Marcos River running through it. I know little of this park so I am looking forward to visiting.

Long Horn Caverns - This state park is better known for its cave tours and is located near Inks Lake about 11 miles West of Burnet. Another park that I know little about and am looking forward to visiting.

Lost Maples State Natural Area -  This park is renowned for its Maple trees and in the fall as the leaves start to change this park gets very busy. This one will be a tricky review because timing is everything or we could miss the changing of the leaves.

Well that's the main list, of new places we intend to go to. We also plan in revisiting some old favorites like Inks Lake and Garner so you can expect updates or new reviews for those parks as well.

Until then, thanks for visiting.
